Call now to schedule a time for your child's influenza vaccine. The flu vaccine is recommended for everybody, but it is especially important for children ages 6 months to 5 years, or those with a chronic medical condition such as asthma, diabetes, heart defects, or cerebral palsy, among others, as these patients are at increased risk for developing complications of influenza.
If you have a child younger than 6 months of age, please be sure to help protect them by getting immunized yourself. This is especially important because infants under six months of age are more likely to develop serious complications from influenza, yet can not get the flu vaccine or take medications that can treat or prevent influenza. Get more information here about protecting your infant.
For this season, EPPC is following the ACIP, CDC, and AAP recommendations to NOT use FluMist. While in the past, the nasal flu vaccine worked as well as or better than the shot, studies now show that the effectiveness has not been as good the last three seasons. We do not understand why the change happened, but for this season the shot is considered the best way to protect yourself from influenza. Click here for more details.
